Instagram Testing Scheduled DMs
Instagram is continuously enhancing its features to help businesses and creators streamline their interactions. You can already schedule posts and Stories on the platform, and soon, you’ll have the ability to schedule direct messages (DMs) as well.
Currently in testing with a select group of users, Instagram’s new DM scheduling tool allows you to send messages at optimal times. As social media expert Lindsey Gamble highlights in an example, some Android users can now choose specific dates and times to send DMs. This feature is particularly useful for coordinating outreach across time zones and ensuring your audience receives messages when they’re most engaged.
To schedule a DM, users with access to the tool can open a chat, compose a message, and long-press the send button. This action prompts an option to select the desired date and time for sending the message.
For brands, this tool offers significant advantages, from improving the timing of your communications to helping you plan and organize your messaging strategy more efficiently. As DMs play an increasingly critical role in audience engagement on Instagram, this feature could become an essential component of your outreach strategy.
Alternatively, businesses could explore AI-driven solutions to manage DMs. While AI bots can help handle high volumes of messages, they often lack the personal touch that builds trust and fosters meaningful connections. At scale, however, they might serve as a viable option for managing extensive interactions.
Meta is also experimenting with advanced AI bots, including those designed to mimic a creator’s style or even engage in video chats with followers. While these developments may suit larger-scale operations, they may not be necessary for smaller businesses.
For most small businesses, the ability to schedule DMs will likely be sufficient and incredibly beneficial. Once this feature becomes widely available, it’s certainly worth exploring to enhance your Instagram outreach and engagement.
